Why Should I Spay or Neuter my Pet?

Puppy Play

By spaying or neutering your pet, you’ll help control the pet homelessness crisis…

Rosie is 7 months old and she was spayed yesterday. She came home and walking very slowly went straight to bed at 6pm and didn’t get up once until 9:15 this morning. She is normally super wild but today she is very calm while recovering. Bella our cat (who normally runs from her) sensed she wasn’t feeling herself came and gave Rosie a bath today. It’s kinda a love/hate relationship.

Here are some of the medical benefits:

  • Spaying/neutering your pets is also highly cost-effective.
  • Your spayed female pet won’t go into heat.
  • Your female pet will live a longer, healthier life. Spaying helps prevent uterine infections and breast tumors, which are malignant or cancerous in about 50 percent of dogs and 90 percent of cats. Spaying your pet before her first heat offers the best protection from these diseases.
  • Your male dog will be less likely to roam away from home.
  • Your neutered male may be better behaved.
  • Neutering your male companion prevents testicular cancer and some prostate problems.
  • Spaying or neutering will not cause your pet to become overweight.
  • Neutering is not a quick fix for all behavior problems.
