Remember: bored puppies cause problems. You have to keep your puppies mind stimulated, chances are she will find something to stimulate her mind and you might not like the results.
A puppy that is mentally stimulated on a daily basis is a happy pup.
Here’s a list to help:
1. plenty of exercise..such as “retrieving the ball” or doing some agility exercise, then that’s even better.
2. Brain teaser toys. One of my favorites is the “Buster Cube” a plastic cube that releases a pellet of food, every 3rd or 4th time it’s flipped over.
3. Dog’s like routine…so small rituals done at the same time every day. Example; grooming, walks, treats, car trips, etc.
4. Dogs like to work. Teach your pup to bring in the newspaper, carry mail back from the mailbox or walk with you to the trash bin.
5. Obedience training. Obedience training requires your pup to use her brain and think. Knowing she will be praised for making right decision and corrected for making the wrong decision (and allowed the opportunity to make the right decision again) instills a sense of responsibility in your pup and demands that she use her noggin. They have been blessed with super-human instincts and drives and they need an outlet for those drives. Remember: Dogs are bred to work.
